The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) permits governing installation and operation of pollution sources; provides oversight through inspections and air, water, and ground sampling; monitors and reports on environmental quality; provides free, confidential technical assistance to 3,000 businesses, organizations and individuals annually to help them comply with environmental regulations; provides environmental education to industry and the general public; helps businesses prevent pollution; takes enforcement actions against violators; and responds to spills and other emergencies.
The agency provides $25 million per year in funding to local governments and organizations for recycling; litter cleanup; scrap tire management; market development for materials such as glass, plastics, rubber and construction/demolition debris; air pollution control; environmental education; diesel school bus retrofits; watershed restoration; and to acquire land and conservation easements to protect and improve water quality.
EPA also supports economic development by awarding $600 million per year in federal and state-funded low-interest loans to local communities for wastewater and drinking water infrastructure projects. Ohio EPA is not requesting any new fees or fee increases.
